Piper Laurie (1932–2023) was an American actress who was well known for her roles in such feature films asThe Hustler (1961),Carrie(1976), andChildren of a Lesser God, all of three of which she received Academy Award nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. Also a recipient of a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award, Laurie was also known for her role as Catherine Martell in the ABC television seriesTwin Peaks.
