She began her career in silent films in Germany, working with directors like Ernst Lubitsch on films such asMadame DuBarry(1919). In the 1920s, she became a celebrated Hollywood star, known for her femme fatale roles, expressive acting, and glamorous lifestyle. Negri also attracted attention for her rumored relationships withCharlie Chaplinand Rudolph Valentino. With the advent of sound films, her popularity declined, but she continued working in films into the 1940s. She remains one of the most iconic European actresses of the silent film era.
