Wallace Fitzgerald Beery(April 1, 1885 – April 15, 1949) was an American screen and stage actor, best known for the roles of Bill inMin and Bill(1930), Long John Silver inTreasure Island(1934), as Pancho Villa inViva Villa!(1934), and for the titular role inThe Champ(1931), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. During a 36-year film career, Beery appeared in more than 250 films. He was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a motion-picture star in 1960.
