Winona Laura Horowitz, better known as Winona Ryder, is an American actress, best known for her portrayals of both quirky, off-beat characters as well as more dramatic roles. She made her film debut in the 1986 romantic-comedy filmLucas, but reached widespread acclaim and recognition for her roles as Lydia Deetz inBeetlejuice, Veronica Sawyer inHeathers, Kim Boggs inEdward Scissorhands, and Mina Harker inBram Stoker's Dracula. She is also known for her roles as Annalee Call inAlien Resurrectionand Susanna Kaysen inGirl, Interrupted. Following a highly-publicized arrest for shoplifting in 2001, Ryder took a hiatus from acting for much of the 2000s, only appearing in smaller parts throughout much of the late 2000s and 2010s. Since 2016, she has starred as Joyce Byers in theNetflixseriesStranger Things, which has since become one of her most well-known roles and often credited with a resurgence in her popularity.
