Dean Smith was a professional Hollywood stuntman for decades. He was also an outstanding athlete, winning a gold medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland in the 4x100 meter relay. He played professional football for the L.A. Rams and was a top level professional rodeo cowboy. He also was a friend ofJohn Wayneand worked as a stunt performer in many westerns with him over the years. Dean Smith is a member of the Stuntman's Hall of Fame. In 1997 he was named "All American Cowboy" and in 1998 he received a Golden Boot Award. In 2007 he received the Silver Spur award for his contribution as a stuntman in the film business. In 2006 he was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame. Mr. Smith passed away on June 24, 2023 at the age of 91. Dean Smith can be seen using firearms in the following films:
