Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (September 27, 1950 – December 4, 2025) was a Japanese-born actor and film producer. Tagawa was born in Tokyo, Japan, the son of a Japanese actress Mariko Hata and a Japanese-American father who served in the United States Army. He was bi-lingual in English and Japanese and also spoke some Russian, Korean and Spanish. He studied kendo and Shotokan karate His breakthrough came in 1987 when he was cast as the eunuch Chang inThe Last Emperor(1987). From that point on he worked steadily for the next thirty-eight years in movies and television. He was seventy-five at the time of his death.
