Lee Marvin

Lee Marvin (1924-1987) was an American actor. He was famous for his head of prematurely grey hair, gravel voice and imposing demeanor. He made a career out of playing tough guys and occasionally tough bad guys. He was a lifelong hunter, though later in life his hunting excursions were more renowned for the amount of alcohol that was consumed than game taken. He served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII as a rifleman (3rd Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division) and was injured in the Battle of Saipan in 1944. He was awarded the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his dual portrayal of gunfighter Kid Shelleen and criminal Tim Strawn in the comedy westernCat Ballou(1965).
