Val Edward Kilmer (1959-2025) was an American actor, known for his leading man roles in action and thriller films. His screen career began in the 1980s, with his first major role being Nick Rivers in the comedyTop Secret!In 1986, he earned worldwide recognition for his role as Lieutenant Tom "Iceman" Kazansky inTop Gun, who he would portray once more inTop Gun: Maverick. Throughout the 1990s, Kilmer established himself as one of the highest-paid actors in the world. His most famous lead roles also include Jim Morrison inThe Doors, Doc Holliday inTombstone, Chris Shiherlis inHeat, Batman/Bruce Wayne inBatman Forever, and Colonel John Henry Patterson inThe Ghost and the Darkness. Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2015, with the resulting surgical procedures and chemotherapy greatly impairing his ability to speak. He died of pneumonia on April 1, 2025.
